The beginning

1954

A proud man became the father of a son on 27th December 1954, the same day of the arrival of the famous Pakistani cricket player, Fazal Mahmood. Late Mr Sadrul Alam probably thought that his son too would be someone famous when he is older so it would be nice to name him after this cricket player. So, the baby was named Fazal Mahmood by his father.

With the loss of two sons already Fazal's parents were extra careful while bringing him up. Although with much struggle Sadrul Alam and his wife, Majida Begum, tried to bring up their son and older daughter in the best way possible.

Fazal was born in Brahmanbaria, he was brought up in Chittagong because his father was working as a Customs Officer there. Fazal attended school there, and then at the age of ten his father was shifted to Brahmanbaria to work for a few years. He studied in Talshahar during this period. He attended a primary and junior school up to class eight. Despite the interruptions occurring in Fazal's educational life he was still able to secure excellent marks in the class. He earned scholarships in class five and in class eight; this was a rare achievement in Bangladesh therefore it was a great honour.

At the young age of thirteen, Fazal was already, singing and acting. These were some amongst many of his talents. His voice and acting ability was much loved by all types of people and even more astonishing was that he did not have any training or special classes to teach him how to act or sing. Fazal's family feared that if he focused on other activities they might affect his studies. However, Fazal demonstrated that in whatever he concentrated on, he completed it successfully without affecting other activities.
